I can't believe I am in my 6th month of pregnancy and only 3.5 weeks away from the third trimester! It has gone by so quickly. In no way do I feel the way I thought I would "feel" or "look" at 6 months pregnant! I thought I would be huge by now! I am so happy with this whole pregnancy.

countdowns are always fun!

clothes that fit!

I was getting very depressed and had that kind of day yesterday where "nothing looks good." You know, ladies... we all have those days! But clearly it is harder when you are 23 weeks pregnant. Lol. I have a limited selection of maternity clothes and just don't want to spend the money on them. I have two dresses, three pairs of shorts and a few tops... Other than that, I am in most of my pre-pregnancy dresses, skirts and still a lot of tops. (good thing I've always had a long torso and enjoyed my shirts long!) I left most of my clothes at the beach since I was only visiting home for a couple of days and was ready to find something cute to wear to dinner. Well... I went searching! Not only did all of the dresses I tried on (left in my closet because I just "knew" they wouldn't fit this summer) they fit! As did my jeggings from white house/ black market- you know, the ones I could NEVER keep up bc I bought a medium and should have bought the small. Well thank you stupid brain last winter for buying the medium, because as long as Riley stays high enough I have a feeling with the strethciness (i know that's not a word) in the pants, I will be able to wear them with my boots in the fall! Score! But for now, I can wear them with heels and still feel pretty! I just had a happy day in my closet finding clothes that "work." I'm not saying they will last all summer, but for now, I am a happy girl with lots of choices!

23 weeks! (with an update at 23w1d)

How Far Along: 23 weeks About 2/3 of the way there! woohooo!!!
Size of baby: large mango
Total Weight Gain: yikes! i'm at 17 lbs this week- idk how i gained about 2 lbs seeing as i rode 30 miles on my bike this past weekend! oh well. i'm healthy and riley is healthy! - i may stop weighing myself this week actually considering my scale at the beach and home are different and plus, i want to stop stressing about it!
*UPDATE: I am taking advice from all of my baby board members- the scale is being buried until after October!
Maternity Clothes: still wearing old tops and dresses and some maternity clothes
Gender: it's a GIRL!! Riley Quinn
Movement: still moving all the time
Sleep: sleeping great! especially now that it is summer break!
What I miss: not swelling in the summer humidity. lol
Cravings: none really
Symptoms: still nothing. life is good <3
Best Moment this week: strangers making comments about me being pregnant- i think it is cute :)

I know i vowed to toss the scales, but I just couldn't figure out why I was showing almost 3 lbs up in just a week ( a week that i rode 30 miles on my bike, walked a ton and ate pretty well...) I was under the impression that 1 lb a week was the norm.

Well, I got back on today and I am back down two more- so only about 1.5 lbs this week! WHFEW. lol. I know I am obsessing and it is stupid, but I was concerned. I think it must have been the fried pickles from the night before with the sodium and water retention on top of the humidity and water retention of the summer- especially because I just weighed myself at 4pm after eating breakfast and lunch and my usual weigh in is first thing in the am. So from here on out- no more weight obsessing... I am STILL on track and my baby girl is growing wonderfully. For anyone who would like to see the chart I use I will post it againhere. I know you can't measure perfectly to a "chart" but it is a good model as a reference to be sure I am not over or under doing it. My goal from here on out is to let the dr. decide though. No reason to be concerned since I am active, eat healthy and am in 23 weeks and only up about 16.5 -17 lbs. (She wants me to gain around 35).

So here's to eating healthy, staying in shape and not worrying!

Happy Wednesday y'all!

Don't you just love those days when you feel like you have gotten so much done! Today, I taught 5 year olds how to go to school from 8-12. Then I...

  • drove to apex to get two new tires
  • had my state inspection done
  • renewed my license plate
  • did laundry
  • unloaded the dishwasher
  • watered all of my plants
  • packed my life for the summer
  • made a tutu for a friend
  • paid the homeowners insurance
  • made dinner/ ate dinner
  • 3 miles on the bike
Now, I am relaxing and watching ABC Family before I shower and put on my pj's. I just wanted to make the list of things I did to make myself proud. Do you ever have a day like that? Not thinking about all of the $$ I had to dish out for being an adult, owning three cars and a home... it's not that bad though! At least the cars are all paid off, right?! Life is good, oh so good.

Anyway, you will find me on island time for the next two months! Hallelujah!

I will leave you with the picture below, because this is where you can find me... and my belly this year:

My goal this summer is to become better at sale-ing and coupon-ing. (thanks a lot spell check, i'm thinking it's time for this word to go into the dictionary now!) Anyway, this morning was our first attempt. Michael needed some nice dress clothes that fit him. (My hot bodied hubby has been working out every day! He looks awesome by the way.) We got some coupons to Belks and we noticed that today they had a "one day only" sale for Father's day and it was from 8-10am. No problem right? We usually get up at 7:30 on average and start our day anyway. Our plan of action: coffee shop, then mall. Well, we slept in. Haha. But only to 8:20, so we just reversed our plan to make it in time. We got to Belks and found Michael some nice dress pants (originally $65.00- sale price $34.99- with coupon = $30.99). He got a nice dress shirt (originally $65.00 - sale price $32.50- with coupon $28.78) And he got a tie (originally $59.50- sale price= $28.99 - after coupon = $17.39) We also swung a father's day gift originally $30 - sale price $19.99 - after coupon = 17.71. So our sub total today was $94.87. We saved a whopping $124.63!!! And, Michael has a nice dress outfit!!! So my next goal to defeat is the grocery store. I am always looking at the sales and the BOGO's and saving tons with my VIC card, but my goal is coupons now! SAVE! SAVE! SAVE! :)

Happy Saturday!

making tutus for Riley Q.

I have had so much fun today. I went to the fabric store and got several colors of tulle. I got pink, black, red and light blue. I also got some ribbon for the tutus. It didn't take long at all! I made her blue one first and it is pretty big. I think it will be adorable to be so huge for newborn pictures. The red one I made smaller and she can likely wear it when she comes! The blue one she will be able to wear later. Like maybe next summer. I will prob. make the black and pink ones small too. And I have a feeling I will be buying more tulle and making many more! I'm considering making them to sell. I really enjoy it. Riley will likely have a skirt or tutu on if she is wearing onesies in public. Yes, my child will be like a baby doll to us when it comes to clothing and we cannot wait! I'm making matching headbands next!

(*side note* my hubby supervises 6 Dominos pizza stores for my daddy- we hope to one day franchise on our own)

(*don't mind the cell phone pictures)

The last one is the onesie i made for her with her homemade tutu. :)

proud of the house we've built...

What an incredible three years it has been in our house. From ugly orange walls and carpet, to beautiful greens and hardwoods. From a yard full of pine trees to a huge open yard for Riley to play in. We are both so proud of the hard work and effort we have put into our home. We couldn't imagine raising Riley anywhere else. We have lots of goals and plans for our house later on down the road. (expanding the kitchen, adding a master and bonus room and garage...etc.)
I wanted to share some before pictures when we first purchased our house and some "now" pictures. I don't want to say after, because our house is a work in progress for sure. We love it.

So these are some before shots:

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------and see what it looks like now:

beautiful floors put in by my daddy, Michael and FIL.

kitchen and hallway leading back into the bedrooms

kitchen and dining nook

incredible back yard!
We have done a lot of work. I would like to get the office painted again now. I painted it originally as a guest bedroom but since we have moved Riley into the old office, we no longer have a guest bedroom (we do have an air mattress!!!). It needs to be one solid color. I would also like to paint the guest bathroom. But I am hoping my next project involves our laundry room. It has come a long way for sure, but it needs some work. And after the laundry room- Our next project will be to remodel the guest bathroom. I love renovating! It is so much fun.

I will leave you with some [nowhere close to finished] photos of Riley Q's nursery!!!

the beginning of her clothing addiction (ok, MY clothing addiction for her) -p.s. there are a lot of clothes folded in the drawers too. lol
the dresser and mirror and side table and crib (ok, all of the furniture) is being painted antique white this weekend!!! she has the green changing pad cover and a white one with pink polka dots

her chandelier will hang where the fan is now. her swing will go to the right of the crib and her glider will likely go on the wall to the left of the crib- this is the "for now" plan until we get the chair in there and see what looks good. We are still missing the chair rail between the two paint colors. She has green curtains with white polka dots that match her bedding from pottery barn kids. I cannot wait to see it all together!!!

~let go laughing!!!

Happiness is real. It is not pretending. Why pretend and boast when it is not real. For example, when you argue with your spouse all the time... why pretend to the world your life is perfect? No one is perfect, so why try? I am just lucky to have what I do and be truly happy with my life, with my family, with my husband and with everything. Are there things I am not happy about? SURE! But I try to focus my life on the positive. It keeps me a very happy girl. My favorite comment that was made to my husband was when he was asked "is she always this happy? are y'all always this happy?" Michael turned and looked at this person and said "ummmm... yeh." Why would you stay married to someone if they weren't your best friend and you didn't get along. I don't understand that either... Anyway- I wanted to post about the things I am happy about because it is SUMMER vacation and I have time to think, reflect and be just me! Here's to an incredible summer of pool, beach and nursery finishing!!!!

Things that make me smile:

Topsail Island. I have grown up on this island and absolutely love it.
We are blessed to be a part of the island community and one day hope
to have a home of our own in paradise.

My four legged son. He makes me smile every day- I cannot
wait to see how he and Riley get along. :)

DURHAM! I love it here and I am so happy and thankful that my husband
loves Durham as much as I do. We cannot wait to take Riley to a Bulls
game next spring!

Our beautiful home that we have worked so hard to own all on our own.
I am so proud of my husband for all the hard work he has put into our home.
Thankful for the Marine Corps which helped us save the money we have
to be so secure right now.

My degree from UNC. I met such wonderful people and learned so much.
I am proud of my degree and lucky it has gotten me where it has today.

Our sweet baby girl, Riley Quinn. I cannot wait to meet her!
My daddy says she looks like I did when I was a baby.

Friends, Family and SUMMER!
Nothing is better than a day in the pool or a day on the sandbar
with incredible people. It is awesome that so much of our island
family lives right here in Raleigh/Durham/ CH and we can see them

Gender: it's a GIRL!! Riley Quinn
Movement: i'm feeling her more and more every day! so cool

Best Moment this week: seeing my our baby girl! our surprise baby shower- seeing everyone- organizing her room and seeing how fabulous Liz looks after dylan is 4.5 months old! (thanks for the outlook, liz!)

5 things...

That made me smile this weekend...

(I think I may try to keep this post up like my weekly belly post)

We found a chair we LOVED that is very similar to the one we liked at crate and barrel-
we had a 20% off coupon and not only does it swivel and rock, it reclines! we got the chair
for over half of the price of the original one we picked out. (*ours will be khaki- not blue)

organizing Riley's room. still trying to decide where we want the furniture.
we like the bed there, but need to decide where the chair will fit if we leave it.

Seeing Christie, Tyler and Desirae at my surprise shower!
...and Andrew and Emalyn and everyone else I hadn't seen in so long!!!
i haven't see them all in so long!

spending the entire weekend by the pool! friday- surprise shower,
saturday- lazy day in the pool with *Heidi, Dillon, Elizabeth M., Liz, Marty, Dylan, Melissa,

baby shower numero uno

A complete surprise! Wow! Emalyn planned it all from Key West. She flew my brother and Andrew in and everything! It was incredible. Riley is one lucky little girl. I was in shock when mom and I were on our way out to dinner and she "forgot her purse" so we had to go back to her house and get it. The last day of school AND a surprise shower for Riley Q. PRICELESS! Everything was perfect. I saw people I have not seen in a long time and it made me cry! When I walked in and my brother was standing there I just lost it! I have a few other friends and family throwing me showers and I just feel so blessed to have such incredible people in our lives. I can't say that enough. Michael and I sat in Riley's room last night in complete awe of what we have for our baby girl. From bath tubs, to bottles, to diaper bags and blankets... we are so blessed. Michael says he is ready for her to be here now. So is Tyler. I think I want her to keep on growing first. haha. Although- I will say this getting closer to her arrival is making me very nervous. Not because of her being here... it's the her "getting her" process I am scared about. Haha. I'm a baby myself when it comes to pain. Drugs, please! Today we are spending the day by the pool with so many more amazing friends and family. I just can't wait for Riley to be able to join Dillon, Dylan, Elizabeth and all the other little ones next summer! She is going to have so many friends! Thank you for everything to all of you who made it here last night to share the special evening with us. It was incredible.

belly pics in order from 3-20

I just think it is pretty cool to see them all in order like this!

Wednesday, June 8, 2011

Here is the picture I will use as motivation after October. I see a lot of running, biking and crunches in my future and a lot of cardio! Everyone who says I don't look pregnant, look where I came from... LOL. I love that every bit is my Riley girl and I cannot believe I have a baby the size of a cantaloupe inside my belly right now! I know I am motivated, but my goal is July to give me 9 months to get off what I gained in 9 months. That is what I am told "it takes 9 months to gain it so don't plan to lose it over night." I'm thinking I will lose a good amount sooner, but I want this tummy back by July! And I know I can because Mrs. Guess did it! ;) And she looks Fab-U-Lous! :) I just came across this picture in my profile pics on fb and wanted to post evidence and motivation for myself in October. Luckily, I have continued to stay active and eat healthy. I hope I can stay motivated to stay this way for the next 19.5 weeks! :) I am SO ready to meet my baby girl!!!

Anywho- I just wanted to post my motivational photo.

~goodnight. let go laughing!
