dear tourists...

The tourists driving 25 down this island when the speed limit is 35 or 45 is crazy. We deal with it alllll year, but this weekend is one of the worst. Oh and don't forget, as soon as they get into town and hit the 25, I'll be darned if they don't go 40! lol. Believe me, I refuse to go to Surf City after tomorrow until at least Monday evening unless absolutely necessary. Don't get me wrong, I love all of our visitors, but I cannot stand the traffic, bridge and busy beaches/water.

Please feel free to add to my list as I will be doing frequently...

  • read the speed limit signs... DRIVE THE SPEED LIMIT.
  • look at the beautiful houses in pictures, not while you're driving
  • do not ride your bike in the middle of the road
  • there IS a sandbar there, but we love to watch you hit it, so it's OK if you don't know how to read the markers...
  • you really don't need to dress up to go out to dinner - you're at the beach
  • wear sunscreen
  • please do not drive backwards in the parking lot at night... in the rain. There are more parking spots out there... I promise.
  • yes... I saw you almost bite the produce bag.. thank you for not when you spotted me. GROSS! Use your hands and pull it down- that is all it takes.
  • please never wear your tie dye "bathing suit cover-up" to the grocery store... ever again. The bathing suit alone would have been more appropriate. (oh, I wish I had thought to snap a picture here...)

I am trying to find a pair of cute red pumps to wear with my awesome new dress for Vegas. (picture to the left) Instead I found an awesome dress at anthropologie. (not pictured) I am the kind of shopper who goes straight into the sale room. Let me just tell you- the sale room there is amazing! The dress was originally $168.00. It was marked down to $79.00 and then again to $39.00!!! I was so excited! The bottom line is, never pay full price at anthro. Almost everything (minus this super cute cardigan I have been eying for 6 months now...) goes on sale within a month! Mega sale! It makes me crazy to pay full price for something and find it mega cheaper two weeks later! Either way- I love anthropologie and if you are looking for chic, good quality clothing- you should most definitely check it out. I am lucky enough to have one a mile down the road- Michael may not consider that lucky. ;)

Unfortunately, I had to return what I thought was going to be an awesome new swim suit for the summer. It was from victoria's secret where I have several suits from. I have NEVER had to return there which is odd considering their main advertisement is what I lack. (aka- the tops! lol) The top fit, was actually flattering and i LOVED it, but the bottom was most definitely made for a stripper. Click here for stripper suit. (Does not look like a stripper suit in the picture!!!) Unfortunately, the selection they are offering this summer is for ladies with very skinny hips and not much of a butt... I chose to take the chance at target again today and finally found a suit I liked.

I have always shopped at target, but honestly they have not had much lately. I feel as if they are raising their prices as other stores with higher quality materials are lowering. I guess it is the economy, but I used to be an avid target shopper. Don't get me wrong, I still LOVE target and could most likely still drop $150 in 30 minutes when I only go in for a bottle of shampoo... but I have not been browsing the clothing isles very much at all recently. Why pay $21.00 for a shirt at target that is going to shrink or tear apart after 3 wears when you can pay just the same or slightly more somewhere else. I did actually find a decent swimsuit for a decent price. Check it out. For $38.00 and full rear coverage- seeing as I spend my summers at the beach and wear swimsuits daily for an average of 10 hours- cheap[er] suits are most definitely the way to go!

I have found several cute tops and shorts at Old Navy this summer. Old Navy has never really been on my list of places to shop until recently. I feel like they have stuff sometimes and other times they have nothing... A few weeks ago, I got a super cute top for only $11.99. Actually, I got two! :)

Anyway- there wont be much more shopping for me this summer! I'll have to get a second job. lol. But I am always looking for a bargain and well designed clothes. I am in no way a designer brand "must have" kind of girl, but when you can get a great deal, I am all there!

That's all for now... Have a great day! Let go laughing!

oh yeh--- I never made it to the cute red pumps I was looking for....

got mail?

I just love my nanny. She called me this morning to chat and I got the best story she has told in a while. She has a new friend that she met at church. Her friend does not drive and she called nanny yesterday morning and asked her to drive her up to the courthouse. She had another friend who was getting married and she promised to be the witness. Well, nanny drove her up there without hesitation. It turns out they were one witness short and asked nanny to be the second witness. Again, she accepted without hesitation. A man behind them in line overheard nanny say she would do it and tapped her on the shoulder. "Ma'am, we're short a witness too... can you be our witness." Again... Nanny said yes. Let me backtrack for a second and say that when Nanny got there, she realized that her friend from church had never really met the person who was getting married... they were facebook friends, both from overseas. So yes... Nanny spent her afternoon at the courthouse witnessing weddings. The man who tapped her on the shoulder and asked to be a witness to his wedding was marrying a lady who did not speak any English and had to recite the vows one word at a time... But no worries- Nanny says her groom was telling her everything because he spoke her language too... They also asked her to take their pictures and nanny became friends with the justice of peace, tell him that his desk was dirty and she didn't know how he found anything on it... Nanny and her friend from church then took the two newlywed brides to the mall to go shopping... ONLY in my family, are stories like this not only told... but true! I love it.

My life on the other hand is not as interesting as nanny's this week... What a wonderful week it has been though. I love my summer break. Michael and I have gotten to spend some wonderful time together. He went home Sunday to go to work and I got up early early Monday morning to head home. Tuesday night we picked up dinner and relaxed at home. We had Seth and Ashley over to play cards and games. Yesterday morning, Michael went with Seth to watch the soccer game on Franklin Street. Then we spent the day by the pool relaxing together. It was so nice to be together and not have any worries at all. This morning he and I woke up to a phone call at 7:45am... it was the person who was supposed to be running his store for the morning shift- they couldn't be there. So guess who had to work 16 hours straight today... Michael. He works so hard and never complains, which is likely the reason that he has the best numbers in the company! Go Michael! :o) I am so excited he is getting a few days off in a row very soon.

I am back on my peaceful island. I will return to my husband soon. No worries! I can't leave him for long! This is the first summer I have not stayed down here for three months without returning home. I don't mind it though because I love our home and I love being able to spend time with Michael when he is off. During the school year, our schedules are almost always completely opposite and we rarely get much time together. This has been wonderful. He even told me what a wonderful house wife I will make! It is so nice to not have the stresses of work on top of the home stresses. I am super jealous of housewives! Maybe one day... lol. I ate my very first personally home grown tomato today! It was fabulous. I am so proud of myself. I spent the evening watching the moon rise with my second love, Coachy-boy, on the beach... it was a beautiful 'almost' full moon. The only thing missing was my sweet husband. I absolutely love being only 2 and a half hours from this amazing island and am so privileged to have grown up here. We're spending tomorrow on the sandbar with some awesome friends. Life is good.

i just love this song.

I love how the beginning of this song sounds so serious and then it gets to the chorus. It seriously made me laugh out loud the first time I heard it. I just love it. As wrong as it is, it is hilarious.

i pray for you <---- video

I haven't been to church since I don't remember when
Things were going great til they fell apart again
So I listened to the preacher as he told me what to do
He said you can't go hatin' others who have done wrong to you
Sometimes we get angry but we must not condemn
Let the good Lord do his job, you just pray for them

I pray your brakes go out runnin' down a hill
I pray a flower pot falls from a window sill
And knocks you in the head like I'd like to
I pray your birthday comes and nobody calls
I pray you're flyin' high when your engine stalls
I pray all your dreams never come true
Just know wherever you are, honey, I pray for you

I'm really glad I found my way to church
Cause I'm already feelin' better and I thank God for the words
Yeah, I'm gonna take the high road and do what the preacher told me to do
You keep messin' up, and I'll keep prayin' for you

I pray your tire goes out at 110
I pray you pass out drunk with your best friend
And wake up with his and her tattoos

I pray your brakes go out runnin' down a hill
I pray a flower pot falls from a window sill
And knocks you in the head like I'd like to
I pray your birthday comes and nobody calls
I pray you're flyin' high when your engine stalls
I pray all your dreams never come true
Just know wherever you are, near or far
In your house or in your car
Wherever you are, honey, I pray for you
I pray for you

Family and Friendship.

Family and Friendship -Two of the most important things in life. I am blessed to have both in so many ways.
Family- n. pl. fam·i·lies
1. a. A fundamental social group in society typically consisting of one or two parents and their children.
"Families are like fudge - mostly sweet with a few nuts."
I have the most wonderful family anyone could ask for. People may ask "why do you live next door to your parents?" "How does Michael feel about that?" "I could never do that!" We hear these questions and comments often. The answer- we love it! Not because we can go into their kitchen anytime we want to or because we can use the pool, or have dog sitters when we need them.... but, because we love them and they are wonderful. I think we are lucky to be able to say we have such wonderful neighbors. We feel like it is our second home. We always feel welcome there and never feel out of place. As a teenager I never thought I would be close to my parents. Now they are some of my best friends. It is also really nice that Michael's family is moving to Charlotte in August. It will be nice to have them closer year round.

Friendship- (frndshp) n. 1. The quality or condition of being friends.
"Friendship is what gets you through the bad times and helps you enjoy the good times"
We are so blessed to have such wonderful friendships, not just within our families. Michael and I have made some wonderful friends throughout our marriage and before. Not only friends of our familes, but friends here in Durham and on base. I feel that friendship is important. Having someone there for you always, even if you don't see them everyday or talk to them as often as you would like to. We have many friends that we met while Michael was in the Marine Corps and we miss them dearly. Time changes and life moves on, but I feel like once you have a bond between friends, it doesnt go anywhere unless you allow it to. We have awesome new neighbors here in durham, and wonderful neighbors at the beach. We are some lucky folks! :o) I hope everyone realizes just how important family and friends are.

Well bloggers, I decided to come to Durham for a couple of days to spend some time with my husband. Unfortunately he is working from open until close today- bummer. I couldn't sit still and I needed a day OUT of the sun, so I went ahead to Lowe's, bought paint and painted the guest room. I LOVE it! Waiting on the chair rail, but Michael can do that later. My arms are killing me. Guess I will be floating in the pool and doing pretty much nothing tomorrow and Wednesday before I head back to my end of the island. I love my summers! :o) I do miss my husband while I am there. Because of his work schedule, we barely get to spend any time together when I stay home anyway, AND he likes it when I am there because he doesn't make the bed. He'll be able to come down some this summer though. It just wont be on the weekends most likely and it will only be a day at a time. But who cares, it's the beach! :o) Like I said yesterday, all of this time he is working so hard in his store only makes for the better for both of us in the long run. I don't have much to write about today... I drove home from the beach, drove to Lowe's, painted... and here I sit and 8pm, starving. lol. Guess I'll find some food now-

The most important things are the hardest things to say. They are the things you get ashamed of because words diminish your feelings - words shrink things that seem timeless when they are in your head to no more than living size when they are brought out.

happy father's day

I have the best daddy and papa anyone could ask for. I am so thankful for having them in my life. They have both taught me so much and I wouldn't be who I am today without them. I spent most of the day today with my daddy. Papa left this morning but I had a wonderful weekend with him. We laid on the beach today for hours. Michael was even able to join us for a little while. We floated in the ocean and laid out on the sand like we used to before we both had real jobs and responsibilities. It was nice. I love being here with him. Daddy, Mom, Page, Michael and I chatted for a long time. I know this is a busy busy time for him and he is working so hard. I am so thankful for the hardworking husband that I have. Many years from now, we will have our own franchise and he will be able to enjoy the time he is missing now since he is working so hard for it. It's worth it. We know it is. I am so proud of him. All I ever hear is how wonderful of a job he is doing. We are so excited about Dominos' 50th anniversary celebration this year! It is going to be a great time!

Today was the first day I took off from running since Wednesday. I am very proud of myself. Yesterday the run actually felt easy for the first time. My goal is going to be at the absolute LEAST 3 days a week but hopefully 5 days a week. I am actually beginning to enjoy running again which is what I had hoped to accomplish. I really enjoy running on the island and am interested to see how the run in Durham goes now that I am used to the flatness here. I am in desperate need of some good running shoes. I told myself I was not going to spend the money if they were going to get tossed into the back of the closet, but I think they will go to use now and I am SO happy about that. All I want back is my flat tummy and these love handles gone. Most of all, I just want to feel better and I already do even after such a short period of time. :)

My memory chip for my camera broke last night. :( I was able to use Nanny's for a few pictures but then I had to give it back. I have a feeling one of the first things I will be doin
g tomorrow is purchasing a new one! I cannot go long without my camera. We just can't have that. Anywho- I'm off to relax and get some sleep early tonight. Goodnight. Can't wait to get home to my hubby for some "us" time!

lovin' island time

It was a beautiful morning here on the island. Peaceful and sunny. It was not as humid today but definitely a scorcher! We played with Lilly this morning. She slept on my chest for a while. Then, Michael and I spent some time together on the dock. He fished, I got some sunshine and played in the water. There is a pretty rough storm headed our way now. It will blow over, as they always do. I just hope my father in law can get his plane to Hampstead or Wilmington safely. Those clouds look mighty nasty. Tonight we are cooking
for fathers day. My uncle came down last night and
Michael got here earrrrrrrrrrly this morning (5am). I am so glad he gets to spend the day down here with me. I am such a lucky girl. Tonight Mom is cooking for the Soignets, Bakers and our family for father's day! I am so thankful to have an amazing father and papa and father in law. Back on island time, waiting for the clouds to go away. Time for day 3 of a 1.5 mile run. I know it's not far, but its a mile and a half more than I would normally be exercising!

sad day. :(

Rest In Peace, Ben Oneal. Papa and Nanny got a dog around Christmas time. Papa has been battling with his nerves for a while now and Ben has been his everything. This morning, they took him to be fixed and when he was put down for the procedure, he didn't wake up. Papa and Nanny are devastated and I just wish I knew what I could do to help. They will be down tomorrow and I hope by seeing Coach and Ringer, Papa will fill joy and not so much hurt. I could not even imagine losing my baby boy and I don't even want to think about it...

Hello south end. I woke up this morning and got Starbucks with my sweet husband. I have spent the day on the island with family. Michael is home working hard and I hope he gets some time to spend down here as well. I helped mom get the house clean and ready for our company this weekend. I had a nice nap this evening as well. I am not a nap taker (ADHD and OCD do not usually allow it!) It was just proof that this break is most definitely needed. We had shrimp, cucumbers, potatoes, watermelon and corn bread for dinner at Cecelia and Dennis'. It was so yummy. Then we sat on the dock to watch the sun begin to set. At about 8:30 I thought it was cool enough to go for a nice jog around the island. Note to self: wait until 9:30 tomorrow night! lol. It was HUMID! Shower and bed time for me. I cannot wait to see my sweet hubby again! I can't believe he is NOT in the Marines this summer. It is weird being back to somewhat normal when he was not in the Marines. No more driving to dirty Jacksonville!!! :o)

summer is here.

Hello bloggers. Summer is here. I am keeping up with my project 365. Check it out on fb. It was too difficult to post here. Lots of new news since I have posted last. I will sum it up as best I can. My first niece Lilliana was born!!!! Michael and I went to Charlotte to meet her. We get to see her again this weekend! My in laws bought a house in Charlotte! They close mid August. Goodbye Penniman Ave. School is out for summer and I am so excited about my well needed and well deserved break. I will miss my buddy, Amy next year though. She will LOVE Ecuador though and be such a wonderful teacher there. Autumn will be a wonderful teacher in Greensboro, even though she is an hour and a half away from me now, and Michelle too is leaving me for Brier Creek. RC will be different next year. :(
Daddy had surgery on his rotator cuff. He is recovering well and everyone is working hard to help him and take care of him. He cannot use his right arm AT ALL for 6 weeks. If you know my dad, you know this is close to impossible. He never stops! He offered to cook 400 hot dogs for the 1st grade end-of-year cookout. Thankfully my sweet hubby, mom and father in law were able to help. It was a huge success and I will really miss my kiddos from this year! On the last teacher workday, Kendra, Tracy and I took the Shelby with the top down out to lunch. What an adventure that was. We had a blast! It was the scene from clueless ALL over again. Kendra says we should make a movie and call it "two white girls and a black girl." I truly love the ladies (and men) that I work with. It makes our job so much better!
So far since I have been out for almost a week, I have had my hair bleached (not on purpose! and since fixed with a toner...) began painting again and spent some time re-decorating/ organizing the house. My sweet hubby is working hard and wont be able to join me as much at the beach this summer, but we will both be back and forth this year. He is doing such a wonderful job and I am so proud of him. All I hear from everyone is how awesome he is and how he learns so quickly. He truly has been a lifesaver while daddy has been "out of commission." We met our awesome new neighbors, Seth and Ashley. They are both teachers too! So, we will have some fabulous friends to hang out with this summer too!
Emalyn came to town and she, Matt, Jennifer and Elizabeth came over to swim on Monday. She is getting so big! Yesterday, Mom and I started our day with a mani and pedi. Then I rode with her to another appt. in Garner. After her appt, we spent the entire day at Crabtree Mall. As a thank you for cleaning the pool house and helping take care of daddy since his surgery, she bought me the most gorgeous dress to wear to the 50th anniversary celebration of Dominos in Las Vegas. It is navy, white and red from the White House, Black Market. This morning, Mom, Dad, Michael and I all went for coffee at Bean Traders and then we went to the mall. In an attempt to keep daddy occupied while mom was busy, I took him into Apple to check out the iPad. Wellll- he got one! I bought him the case for his father's day present. It is SO cool. I would love to get one after the summer is over.
Tonight, my husband and I ate a frozen pizza for dinner and popped open a mini bottle of Korbel to toast to the summer. Now we are sitting on the couches with our lap tops and watching tv. So eventful! Haha. I hope to keep this more updated. Goodbye for now!
